Simple Crochet Blanket

Hi everyone, I have  a really fun tutorial for you all today... It's a crochet blanket. You can make crochet blankets any size or shape using this pattern. I was just making a dollies blanket for a little girl I know which was why I made mine quite small. On to the pattern..

You will need:
  • A crochet hook(I used a 5mm one)
  • Some wool in the colours you want to use.
  • A tapestry needle
  • Scissors

First of all I would just like to say I have never written a crochet pattern before so just bear with me and if you have any questions you can ask in the comments or email me.

Step 1: To start off we need to make the centre which is a circle. So slip stich (sl) on chain (ch) 6 then Join together to make a ring. At this point you should have a little ring of chains.

Step 2: Chain 3 stitches – this counts as your first treble (tr) stitch. Now you need to tr 11 into the centre of your ring. Join your chain 2 to the last stitch of the initial chain you made. Join it with a slip stitch, and tie off your yarn, leaving a tail.

Ok, now you should have a little circle like in the picture above.

Step 2: Row 1: Starting in one of the holes ch 3 tr 2 ch 2 tr 3 ch 2 tr 3 having skip 3 holes ch 2 tr 3. Then repeat until you are all the way round to where you started. Ch to join and then tie off.

Ok, now you should have a square sort of shape like the picture above.

Step 3: Row 2: Starting in one of the 4 corners. Ch 3 tr 2 ch 2 then into the next hole tr 3 ch 2 then the next corner tr 3 ch 2 tr 3 ch 2 then next side tr 3 ch 2 repeating this till you are all the way round to where you began ch to join and then tie off.

Now you should have something that looks like this!

Step 4: The next step is to repeat steps 1 -3 until you have all the granny squares you need. Then you just need to stitch them together(as you would with anything else) and you have your basic blanket.

Next time I will be sharing with you how I added the edging which I think really finishes off the blanket nicely... If you have any questions leave them in the comments and I will try to answer them as best I can!
