Easy Crochet Scarf/Shawl Pattern

Today I have a crochet scarf tutorial for you. I have made several of these crochet scarfs before. You can really change up the pattern to make it unique and exactly how you want it. So here we go....

You Will Need:
  • Wool (about 2 balls)
  • Crochet Hook
  • Scissors
  • Tapestry Needle

I like to keep my crochet supplies in a pouch so that I know I have everything I need in one place and I don't have to go searching for needles ect. For this project I used a 5mm hook.

Start off with a foundation chain of 22 (could do more if you want a wider scarf/shawl).

Row 1:  Working out of foundation chains do 1 treble, 5 chains, miss a chain (that means don't do the next treble in the foundation chain next to the one you have already done a treble out of but leave a gap of one foundation chain before you do the next treble), 1 treble. Then just repeat 5 chains, miss a chain, 1 treble, 5 chains, miss a chain, 1 treble until you run out of foundation chains.

Row 2: Chain 5, turn your work so you are working from right to left, 1 treble using the 5 chain created in row 1, 5 chains, 1 treble using the next 5 chain loop created in row 1, chain 5 etc, etc until the end of the row.

Repeat row 2 until your scarf is long enough.  I sometimes add tassels through the loops at each end.

So there you have one easy crochet scarf/shawl pattern for you. I love the fact that you can change so much of it to make it really different. Let me know if you have a go in the comments below...
